Spine Surgery & Slip Disc Treatment

A slipped (herniated) disc or narrowing of the spinal canal can press on nerves and cause back or neck pain that spreads into the arms or legs. Many people improve with medicines, activity changes and physiotherapy; surgery is considered when symptoms persist, are severe, or nerves are at risk.

At Bharath Neuro Centre, Dr. Bandi Bharath Kumar Reddy evaluates each spine problem individually and explains every option — including what to expect from surgery and from non-surgical care — before any decision is made.

Common signs of a spine or nerve problem

  • Low back or neck pain that does not settle with rest
  • Pain, tingling or numbness spreading down a leg (sciatica) or into an arm
  • Weakness in the legs, arms or grip
  • Pain that worsens on walking and eases on sitting or bending forward
  • Difficulty standing or walking for long periods

How we evaluate and treat spine conditions

  1. 1Clinical examination & imaging reviewA detailed neurological examination, with MRI or other scans arranged or reviewed to locate the exact cause.
  2. 2Non-surgical care first, where suitableMedicines, activity guidance and physiotherapy; targeted spinal injections for nerve pain when appropriate.
  3. 3Endoscopic (minimally invasive) spine surgeryFor selected disc and nerve-compression problems, surgery through a small incision using an endoscope — typically with less tissue disruption than open surgery.
  4. 4Recovery & rehabilitationA guided return to activity with neuro-physiotherapy and follow-up visits.

FAQs

Spine & Slip Disc: common questions

Does every slipped disc need surgery?

No. Many disc problems improve with medicines, physiotherapy and time. Surgery is usually considered when pain or nerve symptoms persist despite treatment, when there is significant weakness, or in emergencies such as loss of bladder control.

What is endoscopic spine surgery?

It is a minimally invasive technique in which the surgeon uses a small camera (endoscope) and fine instruments through a small incision to relieve pressure on a nerve. Whether it suits you depends on your diagnosis and scans.

What should I bring to a spine consultation?

Bring any MRI, CT or X-ray reports and films/CDs, a list of current medicines, and previous treatment records.
